Announcing Church Madness 2016

As a huge college basketball fan, March is my absolute favorite month of the year. My favorite team, the Creighton Bluejays, predictably didn’t make the tournament this year, so I’ll be rooting for my secondary team, the Virginia Cavaliers. (Go Hoos!) As an internet user, it is always fun to see the diversity of content presented in bracket format.

In the March spirit, I’d like to announce our upcoming Church Madness competition, where you readers get to select the most beautiful church in America!

I’ve been taking suggestions on Facebook and Twitter, but I encourage you to contribute your own nominations in the comments below. Any style, any size, any location* is welcome.

*One note: New York and Chicago seem to have an unreal number of contenders for the title. So, while I appreciate all suggestions, I plan to limit the options from these regions in the interest of geographical ecumenism.

On Thursday I will begin releasing the brackets, one region per day. Readers will have the opportunity to vote, and the polls will stay open for one week

Be sure to share with your friends and social networks, and check back Thursday for the first region!

  1. Got to rep Virginia – Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond and St Andrew’s in Roanoke

  2. St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, TX! Fully restored after Hurricane Ike severely damaged it in 2008!

    • Hey Emily! I’m sorry to say that the South Bracket is already filled up! I didn’t know about St. Mary’s until your comment — wow! It is wonderful! I already have it on the list for next year. Thanks!
